About Pro-Net 2000

PRO-NET 2000, an adult education professional development project, is funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Vocational and Adult Education (OVAE). This three-year project, which began in 2000 is housed at the Pelavin Research Center of the American Institutes for Research. The project builds on the professional development activities supported by OVAE over the past 10 years.

Vision:

A nationwide network that fosters continuous improvement in adult education services through professional development.

Goal:

The overarching goal of PRO-NET 2000 is to develop comprehensive professional development systems that provide continuous program improvement.

Objectives:

The objectives of Pro-Net 2000 are to:

  • Assist programs in the change process so that they can adopt new structures or strategies to improve program quality;
  • Develop and disseminate products based on research and practice;
  • Facilitate communication and professional development activities among adult education service providers throughout the country;
  • Develop and promote implementation of competencies for instructors, administrators, and professional developers;
  • Model effective professional development practices:
    • Provide services based on needs
    • Use a variety of approaches to deliver services
    • Assess impact of services

      • All programs have a systematic approach to quality improvement.
      • Paid and volunteer staff in all programs are involved in varied professional development activities to upgrade their knowledge and skills.
